Kyubang Collection

The name "Kyubang' was derived from what was called for the room

where women stayed during the time of Joseon dynasty (1392~1897).

While men welcomed and entertained guests at the room called 'Sarangchae',

women sat together with other women at 'Kyubang' and talked about their beings,

making dresses and other items for their families.

Kyubang was not just a room but a symbol of women's society and their wishes.

They would pray for the happiness and health of their family members while sewing one stitch by one stitch.

Kyubang is a Korean traditional craft, which is made by hand, without the help of machines.

Every time the Kyubang craft is made, it is all about wishing for good luck for whoever it is made for.

Each color, shape and pattern means something different which is related to the well-beings.

In modern times, the craft could be made with the help of the machine, and more in the form of Arts,

rather than the practical use.
