Oriental Knotting

The oriental knotting is, compared to western-style Macrame, various with numerous ways

& its shapes, rather complicated.

While the material for Macrame was some yarns which was ordinary and easy to find,

the material for the oriental knotting was rare and expensive,

only the higher social class can enjoy the finished items.

The main characteristics of the oriental knot work is that all the knots are tied using one piece of thread,

usually about one meter in length, and the finished knots look identical from both the front & back.

They come in variety of colors like gold, green, blue, black,

though most commonly used color is red because it symbolizes good luck & prosperity.

The oriental knotting was loved and utilized mainly in China, Japan & Korea.

It has a long history.  Chinese people used it for festival decorations a lot;

Japanese emphasized on the braids focusing individual knots.

Whereas, Koreans used on silk dresses to add extra beauty.

It was also used to ornament sword, to hang personal items from belts for the aristocracy, in rituals,

where it continues now in contemporary wedding ceremonies
